I have a Master's degree in Special Education from the University of Georgia. My undergraduate degree is in Print Journalism from the University of South Alabama. I have a total of six years experience teaching elementary and middle school students.
Mr. Faybian Johnny will also be supporting students in the ESS classroom. He is returning to ESS this year after serving as a kindergarten paraprofessional last year. In addition to being a great instructor, Mr. Johnny also is very patient and very artistic. Here, he's pictured helping a student during a recent play dough exploration.
Classroom ExpectationsI firmly believe that all students have the right to learn, feel safe and express themselves at school. In order to facilitate this, I spend a lot of time throughout the year teaching and demonstrating classroom expectations and procedures. Please take some time to view the document below so that you are familiar with the ELL Design Principles we will be practicing in class.

I decided to become a teacher eight years ago as a result of serving as a volunteer soccer coach in Decatur. I love coaching and playing almost all sports. I also enjoy camping, hiking, gardening, and taking long walks with my dog Fred. Playing Chess is another one of my favorite things to do. In fact, in Portland, Oregon I co-coached the Chief Joseph Chess team for three years.
I also like movies, music and reading. The last book I read (for pleasure) was "The Kite Runner," by Khaled Hosseini. Some of my favorite Children's books are "Hatchet," "The Giver," The Time Warp Trio series, The Judy Moody series and "The Wump World."

This is our weekly classroom schedule. Students also have individual schedules that list when they are in specials and/or inclusion. Please ask me for a hard copy of your child's schedule if you don't already have it. Parents and family members are always invited to join students for lunch (at 11:00 and/or recess at 11:30 a.m.).
